July 15

We had an adventurous day yesterday! I packed up a picnic lunch and we set off to a nature preserve we'd never been to before.

Kat fell in the water and got her butt all wet. She was thrilled. Can you tell?

As we parked at the nature preserve, my van dashboard lights flickered. It's been doing different things like this lately (it has 190,000 miles, after all). But the engine seemed to be fine. Just something electrical wasn't right. Well, when we left the nature preserve, the gauges all stopped working and the air conditioning stopped working. I pulled over at a gas station to fill up since I knew the van was low on gas (even though that gauge was no longer working). The van wouldn't start back up. We went into the gas station and got slushees and called Clay at work. A man and woman at the gas station jumpstarted the van, so we got back on the road. We made it about 2 miles down the road before it died again! Clay and his boss had to come bail us out. It took two of them because we needed a second vehicle to get everyone home! Clay's car isn't big enough to hold our whole family!

We sat, in the van, on a hot and humid day, with no air conditioning, for about 45 minutes waiting for our rescuers. Don't the kids look thrilled!?!

Hopefully the new alternator will make it as good as new!
