June 30

Elliott, Lucy, and Kat finished their summer reading for the library program.

I had more energy yesterday than Thursday. I managed to go to the grocery store, cook dinner, make homemade peach ice cream (PS - I think the peaches were worth the long line last week), and get Elliott and Lucy's room/toys organized.

June 29

Mollie and Thad hung out at our house yesterday while Greg worked (Jill is one of the adult leaders at middle school camp with Julia). The kids played and kept each other entertained, which is good because I had zero energy. Is VBS hangover a thing? I think it is.

Clay took us out for dinner and then for ice cream.

June 28

Mamaw Pat took Elliott, Lucy, and Kat to KY Kingdom for a few hours. I had the house to myself.  I should have done something fun, but I organized instead, which REALLY needed to be done. I focused on the living room. I filed a year's worth of bills, donated some board games, and hung picture back on the walls in the family room. They have been in a box in our living room since last summer when we had the family room painted. The box was becoming a piece of furniture with things stacked on top of it!

We got some ice cream after I picked them up from KY Kingdom. We then proceeded to drive to six gas stations to fill my van tires with air (the low tire pressure sensor came on). None of their air machines were working. So we gave up and came home and I had Elliott pump them up with our hand pump.

We also finished VBS last night. Done. Finished. Whew!

Our 3rd grade team was selected as one of two teams that showed the most spirit at VBS. Most spirited for sure!

The sanctuary is trashed with confetti, silly string, and sucker sticks. I hope the cleaning people get a raise!

The offering brought in $3,900 from our campus ($5,600 from all three campuses) to go towards building a preschool building for the outpost in Swaziland that our church sponsors. It was a boys vs girls competition. The girls won so this man got slimed - for a good cause. What a mess!

June 27

Lucy's friend Lori came over and played for the day. Little girl play dates are so different (and much easier/quieter) from little boy play dates.

We got Chick-Fil-A for dinner because this Mama is tired. Free kids meals on Tuesday nights also helped. Our neighbor Braxton has been attending VBS with us this week too.

One more day. I think I can I think I can. I am calling it my VBS farewell tour.... it's the only thing that has motivated me to show up to VBS. The kids are having a blast though... next year this Mama will drop them off and let them enjoy it while I enjoy some peace and quiet!

I dropped Julia off at church yesterday morning for a few days at middle school camp. She was excited. Kat is old enough to attend this year, but refused to go. She just doesn't like to be away from home. *Sigh*

June 26

Josiah spent the night with Elliott last night. They had fun and kept each other entertained pretty well today, which is good considering our TV is broken and it was raining outside.

Julia had an orthodontist appointment today. She gets to wear rubber bands 24/7 except when eating. This is to correct her overbite. I guess it's better than head gear!

Night #2 of VBS. Kids are having fun! Me? I think I am retiring after this one. I just don't enjoy it anymore. I am the old curmudgeon that complains about the worship rally (too noisy, too bright, and tonight they pulled out silly string). Why, people, why?

June 25

Last night was our first night of VBS. Tracy and I are 3rd grade rotation leaders so we can be with Matthew and Elliott. Jonathan, Julia, and Kat are our helpers. We have a hard group. We got three of the boys known as the behavior problems, plus three autistic boys. It's going to be a tough week.

One of our pastors is a former UofL football player (the VBS theme is sports)

June 24

We hung out with longtime friends last night that we haven't seen in awhile. The kids just picked up right where we left off. We missed you Peggy!

June 23

Funny Story: We waited in line for an hour and a half for peaches yesterday. You read it right. We are morons. Well, I am a moron and the kids got drug along for the ride. They were so thrilled with me about it too. Heehee.

So... I have heard about the Peach Truck for a couple of years. They bring truckloads of freshly-picked freestone peaches from Georgia. Everyone raves about them. I wanted to try them. You can only buy them by the half-bushels, so it is quite a haul (25 pounds). So we parked (once we finally found a parking spot). We walked toward the line. Little did I know that it went way past the building into the back parking lot. I was debating whether or not to stay in line. The people in front of me had gotten the peaches before and said they are amazing. They said the line moves quickly, but that they'd never had to wait in such a long line before...

Can you sense Kat's enthusiasm? See the sky? Yeah, it wasn't hot out, but the threat of rain was real, from the very start.

It started raining about 20 minutes into our wait. Umbrella? I didn't bother because I had one, and all five us aren't going to fit under one. I figure we might as well all get wet rather than fight over who gets to be under the umbrella.

The kids ran for cover under nature's umbrella. It rained for maybe 15-20 minutes. Not too hard though, thankfully. We were dry by the time we finally got our peaches.

See those trees way back there? That's where we started in line. We'd moved up to within view of the truck after about an hour. I am giggling to myself because I still can't believe I stood in line for this long.... for anything, but especially fruit. We made memories, for sure.

So I told the kids we'd have peaches when we got home. And then I found out that the peaches need to sit out a couple of days to ripen. Hopefully they live up to their promise. My kids may kill me otherwise!
