Our day was going great. Elliott and Julia had friends over, Lucy was hanging out at Mamaw’s house, and then...
Elliott was riding my bike. I told him to put it in the shed and get his bike. As he was riding my bike through the yard, down the hill, he hit the front brakes. The bike flipped up behind him. From the driveway I saw the tires up in the air. He came walking up the hill towards the driveway looking like he was trying not to cry (had to keep a brave face in front of his friend). He reached to feel for a bump on the back of his head where the bike had hit his head. His hand was full of blood. That’s when he panicked. We put a towel on his head and headed to the emergency room at the children’s hospital. Three hours, four staples, and one tetanus shot later, he is almost good as new.
Going to the emergency room during a worldwide pandemic was about the last place I would prefer to be. We went to a children’s hospital because I thought there would likely be fewer Covid19 patients there than at a hospital that treats all ages. He really liked the doctors and nurses. He handled himself well while getting the staples, etc. They now have a numbing gel they can put on kids instead of numbing shots. It’s awesome!

The empty waiting room. Those signs on the seats say “Out of abundance of caution, help us maintain social distance. Please skip this seat.”
