July 31

Happy 66th Anniversary Ma-Maw and Pa-Paw C!

Two new milestones for us:
1 - Lucy's first movie in the theatre. It was for "The Lego Movie". It was $1 each, so it was worth trying to take her. We met Tracy and her boys at the theatre. Lucy sat still for a good 50 minutes, but once her m&m's were gone, she got wiggly. Problem is, she wore her light up shoes, so every time she wiggled and squirmed, they lit up in the dark theatre. I took them off after a few minutes.
2 - Clay took the training wheels off Elliott's 16 inch bike. He's got the hang of it, although he prefers Kat's princess bike because he says it is faster.

July 30

We picked the girls up from church yesterday at noon. They had a good time at camp (although I am not 100 % sure what they did since they were both talking over each other every time I asked a question about camp). They are worn out and stinky (Julia took 1 shower, Kat didn't even touch a bar of soap). Kat came off the bus, made a beeline to me, and gave me the best hug she's ever given. That little gal was homesick. I told her I would send her back next year just so I could get another one of her big hugs!

July 29

We met some friends at the zoo yesterday - all boys (and Lucy)! That rarely/never happens. It's a different experience to go with a crew of boys. It was more about seeing what they could climb - pretty much everything. Elliott had a blast with his buddies.

"We're peeing!" Boys will be boys *Sigh

Meanwhile, church staff have been posting pictures from Kids Camp on Facebook. Yay for spying on them at camp! :P

July 28

Julia and Kat left yesterday afternoon for Kids Camp with 135 other 3rd-6th grade kids from church. Julia went last year and had a blast. This is Kat's first time and she was a little nervous that she might get homesick. Both have friends going and should have a fabulous time.

When the buses left the parking lot, I may have gotten a little ferklempt. They are growing up too fast. Way. Too. Fast.

July 27

We went swimming with friends last night after our 3rd foster parent training. Elliott is a swimming machine now. He swam for hours. We had to wake him up for church this morning, he was so worn out. I NEVER have to wake him up!

True Story: Lucy, who has been potty trained for months (so she hasn't been wearing swim diapers all summer), pooped in her swimsuit. We noticed something dripping down her leg. Then we noticed it on the side of the pool and... you guess it... in the pool! Needless to say, the pool was evacuated (a la Caddyshack) and the pool party ended sooner than expected. Ugh!

July 26

We met friends at Calypso Cove yesterday. Last time we were there, Elliott REALLY wanted to slide on the big blue and yellow slides, but he wasn't able to. There is not a height requirement, but you have to be able to swim, without floaties, to the edge of the pool after you slide. The water is 3'6" deep, which is over Elliott's head. As soon as we got there, he wanted to ride the slides. I made him practice swimming for awhile first, but he got good enough to try the slides. He did them over and over.

 Do you see that smile?

Practicing swimming with face under water...

I babysat for Jonathan, Matthew, and Elijah last night. Elliott and Matthew are two peas in a pod. They love each other and play so well together.

Julia spent the night with Bethany last night, and Leanna (Bethany's sister) spent the night with us. These two girls are fun together. I love their little friendship. I put Christmas lights on the trampoline and they spent hours out there jumping, reading, snacking, and finally, sleeping. I didn't think they'd actually go to sleep, but they did! They came inside to sleep after a couple of hours.

July 24

We met some friends today at Locust Grove. It was hard to see everything on the tour since I had Lucy with me, but it is a neat historic home and I would like to go back sometime with just Julia and Kat. George Rogers Clark lived in this home at the end of his life. His sister and her husband owned/built it. Lewis and Clark visited the home, as did 3 different US Presidents. The kids had more fun walking along the fence and playing outside.

Clay and I also went downtown this morning and were fingerprinted for our FBI Background checks. Three more foster parenting classes, a home study/visit and we should be on our way to being foster parents!

July 23

We just got back from spending 4 1/2 days at the lake with Mamaw and Bapaw. Here are all the pictures:

A hurricane, as predicted by Clay's back hair weather map.

Having a good talk with Daddy

 Tubing at sunset

Redneck water skiing. You look reeaaal nice Clark.

Julia was determined to learn to water ski. By Day #2 she had the hang of it. The video below is of her first day learning how to ski. I also tried it. Julia's much better than I am.

 Anyone ready to go faster?

 Worn out boys.
