April 30

Lucy and I ran errands yesterday. You can always lure her on errands if you promise a trip to Target.

Elliott has four games this week. Four. Game one didn’t go as hoped. His team lost 11-0. He struck out at his only at-bat. He had a couple of good fielding by plays at third base. One of his teammate’s little brother commented that Elliott always has “one awesome play each game.” He was referring to Elliott catching a line drive to third.

April 29

The bagels looked funny but tasted yummy. They didn’t last long.

Julia and some of the other college students at her church were recognized and prayed over yesterday for summer missions. I am so proud of her.

Lucy and I went to see the movie “Unsung Hero” last night. It was really good. I may have cried a few times. This is the movie that Elliott, Lucy, and I spent a day being extras in during the fall of 2022. The part we saw being filmed/participated in that day took hours to film and was about 30 seconds of the movie. One of our former co-op families’ dad is a co-director of this movie (along with Joel Smallbone from For King & Country, a band we love). We didn’t know that three of the kids are small parts in the movie. Fun surprise!

April 28

We got Lucy’s winter clothes put away and got her summer clothes washed and in her dresser. For Elliott? Nothing changes. I am thankful he wears athletic shorts year-round!

Clay spent the afternoon packing. He will be in Texas for the next two weeks.

I got this Stanley cup for Lucy at the Goodwill for $3.99. These cups are handy but nowhere near the $45+ people pay for them brand new.

Attempting sourdough bagels…

April 27

Clay and I spent 10 (TEN!!!) hours blowing insulation into the attic yesterday. It took a little longer than expected (What DIY project doesn’t?) because Clay had to go back to Menards twice to get more insulation. He originally purchased 64 bags. We ended up using 88. Today I get to clean all the dust out of the garage. Insulation dust is right up there with glitter and sand; it’s from Satan. We will find insulation dust in nooks and crannies for years.

We went downtown to see the balloon glow. Due to wind, the balloons couldn’t be inflated. We saw a “candlestick glow” instead.

Kat was at work most of yesterday, so we didn’t get to talk about prom much. However, her calves are sore from dancing (teens don’t dance, they jump up and down), so I would say she had fun.

April 26

Clay took Elliott and Lucy on a field trip to learn orienteering (reading a compass).

Kat and her friend Bethany went to Kat’s Senior prom last night.

April 25

  • I had been dreading yesterday knowing how much was on the calendar. The good news is that we survived!
  • Clay took the day off work for a doctor’s appointment.
  • He also took his car to the body shop for an estimate (it was a lot).
  • He bought supplies to add insulation to our attic.
  • I dropped Elliott and a friend off at school, then went to Kohls
  • I had my annual OB/GYN and mammogram.
  • I had to make a return to another store after that.
  • Lucy and I later picked Elliott up from school
  • We met Kat at the dentist office in between her two shifts of work (from 9-2 and 4:30-9:30). Kat got a permanent filling where she’d had a root canal. The kids and I got our teeth cleaned (Good news? No cavities. Bad news? In the very near future we are going to have one teen (Kat) due for wisdom teeth removal and two kids (Elliott and Lucy) going to the orthodontist for consults. Oy!
  •  Clay picked Elliott up from the dentist office to go to his baseball game. They lost 12-0.
  • Lucy and I ate dinner at Chick-Fil-A (no time to cook) and then grabbed a few things from Wal-Mart.
  • Lucy and I went to church.
  • Julia had an MRI in Lexington yesterday. Thankfully, Mamaw was able to go with her.
  • Clay spent the evening in the attic prepping it for the insulation.

Hopefully this insulation will help regulate the temp inside our house.

I helped out in the Kindergarten class at church. I had one especially sweet little girl in my class.

April 24

Clay had a trailer on the back of his car. He forgot about the trailer when he had to maneuver around another vehicle in the middle of the road (or parking lot?). Anyways, he learned an expensive lesson.

Elliott had a baseball game. His team won 15-0. It was cool and rainy. If the rain hadn’t made them call the game, they would have called it for the mercy rule after the third inning.

April 23

My sweet friend Meghan squeezed Kat in early yesterday for prom dress alterations.

I cleaned all the pollen off the rocking chairs and added a fern. Wonder how long I can keep it alive?

Lucy and I made Philly cheesesteaks for dinner

Gus and I enjoyed a long neighborhood walk.

Lucy and I finished her “Lucy” sign while watching Gilmore Girls last night.

April 21

Thunder Over Louisville is always a good day. The temps dropped considerably as the day went on.

April 20

Julia is home for Thunder. I picked her up and took her to get lab work done for the endocrinologist. She asked for a milkshake for being brave. I may have created a monster years ago… ha!

Lucy and I made hibachi steak, chicken, and shrimp. Clay said it was the best meal he’s ever eaten at home.

Since I went to Lexington to pick Julia up, Bapaw took Elliott to watch the planes/helicopters practice for the air show.

Kat went prom dressing shopping for a few hours after work. She wanted to shop alone. If she found a dress, she’d join friends at prom. If not, she would plan to not go, which had been her plan until recently. She found a dress. Prom is Thursday! Gulp!

Deez Nuts (my original attempt at sourdough starter from scratch) went into the trash a month ago. Aunt Susie gave Mamaw some starter that she has had for many years. After having Elliott name the first batch, I let Julia name this one, thinking she’d come up with something cute. Maybe I should have asked Lucy. Meet Hugh Jazz. Hopefully I don’t kill it!
