January 30

Saturday night Lucy had trouble getting to sleep because her left ear hurt. Yesterday morning when she woke up, she complained that the other ear hurt. She’s been battling congestion/runny nose for two weeks, so instead of church, I took her to urgent care. Double ear infection for this girl.

Clay was with Elliott at a state duals meet that his team got invited to at the last minute. He lost both of his matches, unfortunately.

Clay, Elliott, Lucy, and I spent a few hours at the Boat and RV Show yesterday.

Kat and Elliott’s school had a Homecoming party after their basketball game yesterday.

I threw on Elliott’s shark slides to drop kids off. While I was out, I ran into Wal-Mart to grab something, forgetting I was wearing shark shoes. Ha!

Clay and I were trying to watch TV. Also, remember when we could all pile in the bed and watch TV together? Yeah, we don’t quite all fit anymore.

Elliott has a test in chess class on the King/Rook vs King endgame. Thank goodness Clay is able to help him!

Julia had to give her “Backpack Defense” yesterday. Kids leaving elementary, middle, and high school have to present a virtual backpack on why they deserve to graduate. I don’t know all of the details, but one of Julia’s former math teachers was one of the people she had to present her “backpack” to. This teacher told her that of any student he’s had, when she says she plans to become an aerospace engineer, he believes she can do it.

We had snow when we woke up yesterday. It was gone by the time we got home from church.

Elliott had middle school regionals yesterday morning. He lost two matches and was done, which means that he didn’t qualify for middle school state, but will still get to compete in youth state in a couple of weeks. His team did better and most of his teammates will get to compete at the middle school state meet.

Clay’s plane arrived late Friday night. I was already asleep because I had to get up at 6am to get Elliott to his meet.

Kat attended a youth group lock-in at Main Event Fri night/Sat morning. She dozed off and on yesterday.

Julia had to get up early yesterday morning for an Academic Team math test. She placed third in the qualifying round a few weeks ago. She placed fourth on yesterday’s test, so now she will compete at the regionals in a few weeks.

His solution for keeping his hair out of his eyes. I offered to take him to get a haircut. He declined.

Julia went to the doctor by herself! She filled out the paperwork “like a champ”, talked with the doctor, and made a follow-up appointment. Having an 18 year-old is awesome! Especially a responsible one. I am proud of her!

January 20

I got a couple of yearbook pages done.

This guy had a rough morning. He threw up four times between 7am and noon. He was finally able to keep some food down in the afternoon. He wasn’t up for wrestling practice, but his coach asked me to bring him in for pictures if he wasn’t throwing up anymore. There is no makeup day for pictures. We went in, got pictures taken, and got out quickly.

We were given a ton of Babysitters Club books from a friend. Lucy had fun organizing them. Hopefully she will be as excited to read them as she was to put them in chronological order.

Princess Lucy doing school with her Starbucks chai tea on her rolling cart, her fairy lights on, still in her pajamas. It’s good to be the baby.

While Lucy was at CrossFit we went to Puppygram

We had to exchange the shark slides that Elliott got for Christmas because his foot grew between the time I ordered the last pair and Christmas. The new ones arrived yesterday.

In between Julia’s work shifts, she and Raymond grabbed lunch and went to the reptile show to get more food (aka frozen rats) for her snake.

Clay left yesterday for a week in Vegas at the World of Concrete.

January 15

We pulled out the toilet in the hall bathroom. It has been acting up for a month or two. Clay bought an auger and tried to unclog it. When that didn’t work, we decided to pull it out. He dislodged something and now it works! We’ll see how long it lasts.

I finished Kat’s dresser.

Gus made sure Elliott’s feet were warm while he did math.

Lucy’s CrossFit class played dodgeball

All the teens were with friends and Clay was at jiu jitsu, so Lucy and I grabbed dinner at Culver’s.

Two coats of paint are done. Next up is polyurethane. As of right now, it seems like the smoke smell is gone.
