March 20

Enjoying a little fresh air before it rains-again! This whole quarantine hasn’t been too bad so far. It would be nice to have sunshine for a day or two. The kids don’t seem too upset about missing sports and activities. Julia misses her friends from school and Kat is sad that we won’t be going back to co-op this semester. It’s been nice to be at home eating dinner together. Usually I am so rushed to get this kid here or there that dinner is eaten in shifts.

Who needs store-bought bread? Lucy and I made our own!

I am going to gain a ton of weight during this quarantine. We’ve already polished off two loaves of pumpkin bread. Apparently I bake when I am bored/stressed.

Julia has us more time to work on drawing/art. This is the lead singer for her favorite band, 21 Pilots.

March 19

Lucy painted some of her ocean critters.

Elliott has learned about Asian geography and culture this year. He had a map test yesterday and got 26 out of 27 countries correct.

Everyone needs a Jonathan in their life. He brings such joy to our family.

Kat and Julia doing schoolwork/research. Elliott provided a pillow for the dog.

Co-op leadership meeting held via video conference. We made the decision to not meet any more due to the Corona Virus. Upper level classes will be taught online so that the high schoolers get their credits for transcripts. Kat is taking it the hardest.

March 18

We tried to be festive for St Patrick’s Day by eating a rainbow, gold, and a cucumber clover.

I hid the Rolos around the basement and the kids had a treasure hunt.

Wii dance to burn off some energy

Julia has had plenty of extra time on her hands this week.

We added Abbie to our homeschool yesterday. Good news! She’s a well-behaved, smart girl.

Kat’s boyfriend, Braylon, and his brother came over and hung out too. Both are nice kids.

Watching church online

Gus is enjoying having all his people home. Elliott and Lucy spent several hours outside yesterday with neighbors.

March 15

Lucy decided to make an airplane/airport. I bough a “tiket” to Montana and then she flew me there. She is good at using her imagination!

Elliott spent Friday night with Mamaw and Bapaw. Nora, Nikole, and Joe were there for awhile yesterday, so he got to enjoy more time with Nora this week.

So, while the public schools are out for the next couple of weeks, they sent online activities for students to continue learning. They aren’t mandatory though, so I doubt many kids even look at them. Julia looked through the matrix and said it was just busy work and a waste of time. I told her I couldn’t have her sitting around for the next two weeks because nobody else would be motivated to do their work (my homeschoolers will not get a Corona break).  She said she’d rather me assign her work. Done!

Here’s the Boredom Busters I am letting each kid choose from:

March 14

Gus Gus got groomed. It causes a great deal of anxiety for the wimpy dog. As a reward he got lots of snuggles and a bone.

Happy Birthday Lulu!

The theme for AWANA Wednesday night was “Dress Like Mom/Dad”. Lucy nailed it! Hair clip? Check. Mole? Check.

Amid all the Corona Virus hoopla, homeschooling continued. Elliott’s Anatomy study guide required some popcorn.

It was announced today that starting Monday, local public schools will be out. Kat’s school is cancelling next week as well. Co-op is also cancelled. All will have online options moving forward until (at least) after Spring Break.

Yesterday was the day our grocery budget started over. Unfortunately, the Corona virus news was relentless yesterday, causing everyone to panic and rush to the stores. I ordered the Kroger pickup. When I showed up for my time slot the poor guy came to the car and said all his Clicklist co-workers called in, so he was on his own and that he was running hours behind schedule. 😳 I asked if there were any groceries left in the store (the parking lot was packed). He said they were out of a lot.

I headed to a different Kroger.

It took forever because every aisle had a line of people/carts and it took awhile to maneuver through each aisle.

Not a single roll of toilet paper in the store. I got everything else on my list! A friend of mine sent pictures from her Kroger and they were almost out of meat and other staples.

Believe it or not, I was checked out in 10 minutes. They were prepared for the onslaught of people. Everyone I encountered had good attitudes and made jokes. All in all, it wasn't nearly as awful as I anticipated.

March 12

Nikole and Nora came over for a few hours yesterday. It is fun to watch Elliott with Nora. He is very sweet with her- quite opposite of how he is with Lucy.

I follow Jennifer Garner on Instagram. She is my celebrity best friend (though she doesn’t know it). Anyways, she has a pretend cooking show where she made these soft pretzels recently. I thought they looked like something the kids would enjoy. I wasn’t wrong. Within 12 hours, we ate all sixteen pretzels.

Happy 10th birthday Maddy!

Julia and three classmates made this word art picture of Muhammad Ali. If you zoom in, you will see that the picture is made of words, not lines.
