August 23

We met friends at an apple orchard yesterday.

We made homemade cinnamon applesauce when we got home.

Kat loves to read so much she can't be bothered to stop when feeding the dog. She's a multitasker!

August 21

The girls had their first piano lesson yesterday and they both enjoyed it. We attended a "Not-Back-to-School" party with other homeschoolers after their lessons. Then we came home and had a Back-to-School party. Minus the party - we did about a half day's worth of school.

August 19

Yesterday we got home from church in time to head to Julia's first softball game. Peggy stayed home with the nappers (and Kat). Thanks Peggy!

Julia struck out both times at bat, but she's still not used to hitting from a machine. She'll get it though. She's got a good swing.

We picked Papaw G up for dinner and took him to a park to watch a local band play bluegrass music. We had beautiful weather. The kids had fun running around playing with some new and old friends.

This man had a bubble machine that the kids enjoyed.

August 16

We celebrated Jonathan's last day with us this summer with cheesecake.

We had planned to make a day of it at Bernheim Forest, but Lucy fell and bit her tongue. It bled alot, so we headed home for some Tylenol. An hour later it was still bleeding. It had finally stopped when she woke up from her nap.

Batdog. Gus's super hero power? He lets the kids do just about anything they want to him and doesn't bite them.

August 15

We spent a majority of the day outside at home yesterday. You read that right. At home. Some days even I get tired of going places. We had awesome weather (mid 70s with low humidity), so the kids played outside while I finished up the garage trim job from months ago.

 Lunch on the porch.

 Isn't this a lovely picture?

Kat made a paste with water and sidewalk chalk. Kat painted the sidewalk. Lucy painted herself.

It was Julia's turn to make dinner last night. She wanted pancakes and scrambled eggs. I helped stir the eggs, but otherwise Julia made it by herself.

The ice cream truck came by last night, so we bought some treats (Summer Bucket List item completed). Julia and Kat were playing putt putt with Mamaw and Bapaw (another SBL item complete).

August 14

How much can you cram in a day? We did as many things as possible yesterday in an attempt to cross off a few more things from our Summer Bucket List.

First stop was the Humane Society. If Clay weren't allergic to cats, Tilly the kitten might have come home with us. She was a snuggly little furball.

Our next stop was to a beautiful old cemetery in town. We went to feed the ducks. These ducks/geese were hungry. We usually feed them at a park, but they seem to be fed so much that they aren't usually interested in our crackers. This was not the case at the cemetery. These guys were aggressive!

Kat and Elliott did not enjoy the geese coming to get their crackers, so they opted to hang out on/near the bench.

Everybody hanging out watching Jonathan do all the work.

Our third stop was to a park for a picnic lunch and some play time.

The fourth stop was not on our bucket list, but when I drove past Krispy Kreme, the "Hot Donuts" sign was on, and I couldn't pass it up! As a bonus, the kids got balloons. I love Julia's goofy face.

The balloons came in handy for target practice.

It was Elliott's turn to plan our dinner and help cook. He chose homemade pepperoni pizza and watermelon.

And finally, Julia had softball practice last night. She is on a new team for the Fall. This league is not through our church and is alot more competitive. She has some catching up to do to the other girls (they have all played for this league before), but she seems to be enjoying it and is learning alot.

Lucy was with us all day for these activities, but I didn't get hardly any pictures of her because I was holding her at the Humane Society and the cemetery. She was a little overwhelmed by the animals.
