I took Elliott and Lucy to Brandenburg yesterday afternoon to tour this World War II ship. It is the last fully operational LST (Landing Ship Tank) left. It made 42 trips between England and the beaches of Normandy. It held 19 tanks inside of it and also transported over 700 German prisoners.
The crew was great at trying to engage the kids. This man let Lucy and Elliott sit at this cannon and turn the crank to raise and lower the weapon.
That boat that says LST-325 is what the troops used to storm the beaches at Normandy. This ship holds four of these Higgins boats.
