July 14

We spent a couple of hours at the Derby Museum with our Cultural Passes.

We also went to Historic Locust Grove. This is Louisa, a woman depicting being an enslaved person in the early 19th Century. She explained how she did laundry. We learned that they emptied the chamber pots and let the urine ferment for a week or two to make ammonia. They used this to bleach their clothes! For many reason, I am thankful I wasn’t born in the 19th Century!

The kids also learned a little about how clothes and rugs were made and got to try using a weaving loom.

Lisa, Tucker, and Ron are in town visiting. We spent some time hanging out last night with everyone.

Playing school with the neighbors

These two haven’t played together in a week due to our family trips/vacations. They had a lot of fun together playing for hours and hours.

July 12

While I was hanging out with friends from church, Clay sent me a couple of pictures. He knew my goal was to Spring clean our bedroom this week, so he pulled all the furniture out from the walls and vacuumed. He also swept up the dust bunnies in our closet. I finished the room this morning by cleaning the windows, curtains, and dusting. I have two bags of clothes to donate.

It was a fun, full day of entertaining four boys. The teens were working and Lucy was playing at a friend’s all day.

One of Clay’s co-workers was in town from Mississippi and brought his 11 year-old daughter with him. While her dad was in training all day, Julee hung out with us at Kentucky Kingdom.

July 8

This girl got her restricted driver’s license!!! This means that she can drive without a parent. She can only have one non-family member with her and she can’t drive between midnight and 6am. She was hoping she wouldn’t have a “cranky old man” as her tester. Instead she got a forty year-old drill sergeant-type guy. He was very intense. He made ME nervous. Julia handled it well and passed with flying colors!

The rest of the day was spent driving Kat to/from work, grocery shopping, cutting grass, getting the oil change/tires rotated, getting the van washed and vacuumed, and laundry… lots of laundry. You know, all those fun things you do when you return from a 1,400 mile trip week-long trip.

July 6

We spent a few hours at a nearby park playing games and having a picnic with Nonna and Grandpa Carroll.

Grandpa Tim took the teens to the mall while the rest of us went swimming.

Maddy is now slightly taller than me! She’s 11.

The Three Stooges reunited

We enjoyed swimming in Terah and Jordan’s new resort, I mean pool.

Cuties (and Maddy is now as tall as Aunt Amy)

Terah and Jordan’s neighbors put on quite a fireworks show. Elliott, Lucy, and Maddy enjoyed it from the pool.
