May 10

Trisha Yearwood sang the National Anthem.

After iFly yesterday, I headed home with my students. Clay and Elliott hung out in Cincinnati and went to the Reds game. The Reds are terrible this year (notice the lack of fans due to a 6-23 record), but they won last night 10-5.

May 9

My Physical Science class, plus a few siblings and Moms, went to iFly Cincinnati today. I had organized this trip before my knee injury. I wasn’t able to fly, but it was fun watching the kids and moms try it. Clay and Elliott joined us for the experience. They drove separately. Clay didn’t want to ride in a 15 passenger bus with a bunch of teens. Ha!

We had a STEM educator talk about how the air tunnel works, careers in STEM, and how surface area/mass effects terminal velocity of different objects.

Then they put the different objects in the air tunnel. Water was pretty cool.

One of my adopted daughters at church is also on crutches.

Julia took this picture of our Mother’s Day lunch. Clay cooked steaks, corn on the cob, and had Mark’s Feed Store potato salad. Yum! Kat was at work.

We (Clay, Julia, Kat, and Elliott) moved all of the board games to the basement and then we moved the snake into the living room.

Lucy decided she could use one of the old board game shelves in her room.

Clay decided it wasn’t Mother’s Day. Rather, it was “Have Dad accomplish Mom’s Honeydo list” Day. Whatever it takes! We got a little rod hung to display Lucy’s art.

Elliott’s wrestling/jiu jitsu medal holder got hung in his room.

Steri strips are gone!

Julia wanted to shop for flowers and plant them. Raymond declared himself the project manager.

After Elliott’s woodworking class, we met one of his friend’s from school so they could play tennis for a couple of hours.

May 5

Lucy finished 4th grade. She worked hard and is a good student. On to 5th!

Elliott finished 6th grade. This was, by far, his hardest year. He rose to the challenge (sometimes kicking and screaming) and is ready for 7th grade! He has definitely earned a break.

May 4

Kat and Elliott had FCA yesterday after school. Elliott is now finished with all of his classes at CEC. He finished with straight A’s!!! That is huge, especially for English class! Kat has to take a Calculus final next week and then she will be done.

I know your day wouldn’t be complete without seeing my bruised, chubby legs. I tried going all day yesterday without Motrin, but by evening, I caved in and took some. I got pretty uncomfortable. I took 400mg of Motrin this morning instead of 800mg and that seems to be enough.

May 3

We made it to our last co-op! We skipped first hour so I could ice my leg, went to second hour, the program/party, and then left after third hour so I could come home and ice my leg again before physical therapy. Lucy was nervous about her Recorder class presentation, but she did great!

Yearbooks were a hit! It was fun getting to watch everyone enjoying them.

I dropped Kat off at the grocery store while I was across the street at physical therapy. We had some funny text exchanges. Honestly though, how many 15 year-olds are competent enough to go to the grocery store alone? I am proud of her, even if she is a snarky turd.

May 2

Clay and I went to Lowe’s and picked out lights for the deck (my Mother’s Day gift). I drove. I did fine, but it wasn’t super comfortable for my leg. After about thirty minutes in the store, I was ready to come home and ice my leg.

Lights are up!

May 1

Our neighbor Ava made this for Lucy’s door.

Someone had given us a DoorDash gift card when I first hurt my knee. We cashed it in yesterday.

Elliott went to a birthday party yesterday.

Julia and Kay both worked.

I had a much better day. I haven’t taken hydrocodone since 11pm Friday night. I was comfortable with ice and Motrin. Yay! My knee doesn’t actually hurt that much. The hamstring is what is sore (they took the graft from my hamstring to make the ACL). I am supposed to keep my leg elevated with a pillow under my ankle to try and extend my leg as straight as possible. This stretches my hamstring. It’s a no win situation, except that if I want to have a straight leg after this is over, I have to do this. Fun times!
