February 9

I feel this quote from General Patton.

We spent the day at Fort Knox as a family. We went to the Patton Museum. It’s been on my radar for years and now that Elliott’s learning about World War 2, it was the perfect time to visit.

After lunch, we went to the aquatic center on base and marked something else off my bucket list: the Wibit inflatable obstacle course. Yes, I did it too. No, there won’t be pictures on here to prove it. It was a perfect way to burn off some energy in the winter!

Evidence that the 15year-old was there. 💩

Apparently I wasn’t supposed to take this picture of the gold vault.

February 8

Last night was the Night to Shine prom. This year Jade attended, so Julia and Kat buddied up with her.

I found Jenn and Todd again and joined them and Kayla. They are so much fun!

February 7

While Joe and Nikole are house hunting, we are hanging out with Nora. She’s the cutest! Kat has decided, based on the way he plays with Nora, that Elliott will be a good daddy.

Happy Birthday Peggy!!!

We finished the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia. As a reward, we’re watching the movie (Prince Caspian) and eating what the Pevensie children eat (“bears” and apples).

February 5

Julia’s friends in health class made a poster.

This girl currently has 100% in computers, health, art, and English. She has over 100% in geometry and science. Her lowest grade is a 98% in civics.

And Kat, don’t get me started! She has 100% in English and 96% in Algebra 2. Her Algebra 2 class as a whole is failing the class. The last test results were so bad that the teacher is giving them a week to correct the tests and grasp the material better. Kat? She got 100% on the test!

Elliott’s coach’s wife always takes better pictures of the kids at the meets. He was sad that he didn’t have wrestling practice last night. Wrestling is an intense sport. I am glad Elliott enjoyed it. I think it’s been a lot of fun, mentally tough, physically challenging, and built his self-confidence.

He asked when the next jiu jitsu competition is. He loves to compete!

February 3

Lucy’s Swimming Creatures class did an experiment with blubber (Crisco) and water temperature.

The mean old anatomy teacher gave a quiz on the cardiovascular system.

We also took blood pressure, pulse rate, and let them use a stethoscope to listen to their hearts.

We had beautiful 70 (!) degree weather, but unfortunately didn’t get to take advantage of it because as soon as we got home from co-op, I had to turn around and take Julia to piano. And as soon as we got home from piano, it was time to head to Elliott’s jiu jitsu class. We no longer have wrestling and Julia’s volleyball league is almost over, so Monday evenings will be getting a little easier.

February 2

Elliott admitted to being nervous this morning. He rarely gets nervous. He had a bye in the first round. So his nerves had time to build. His first match he got pinned (that kid ended up pinning all his opponents and taking first). Elliott rebounded quickly and pinned the next three opponents in under 1 minute. He beat his fifth opponent by points. He got third place in his weight/age division for state! Pretty great for a first year wrestler. He got 44th place for number of pins/shortest time to pin opponents. Not bad considering there were over 1,000 wrestlers competing!

After the meet we stopped by the nearby cemetery that houses some of the Hatfields and McCoys. This is Randolph McCoy, the patriarch that started the feud with “Devil Anse” Hayfield.

On our drive home, the second session of the meet was going on. They combine the scores from both sessions to get the team scores. Elliott’s team came in first!

February 1

Clay, Elliott, and I made the four hour drive to the KY State Wrestling meet. Elliott weighed in, we checked into our hotel, and then went out to eat with some of the coaches, teammates, and parents.
